Trevor Smith and Matt Miller selected to All-CAA teams

Boston, Mass.
Trevor Smith was selected to the All-CAA second team Tuesday evening.
Two members of the Northeastern University baseball team were honored at the CAA Baseball Banquet Tuesday evening as senior Trevor Smith (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) was named to the All-CAA second team as a relief pitcher and redshirt freshman Matt Miller (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury) was named to the All-Rookie team.
Smith, a four-year letterwinner at Northeastern, has been a critical member of the Huskies pitching staff this season. He spent a majority of the year as the team’s first bullpen option before transitioning to a starter towards the end of the season.
During the regular season Smith went 5-2 with a 3.94 ERA and 52 strikeouts, his third 50+ strikeout season. One of Smith’s most impressive outings from the bullpen game in the Huskies’ 8-6 victory over Virginia Commonwealth April 26. He came in for the third inning and pitched the next seven allowing only five hits while striking out five. Smith also pitched the final two innings of the Huskies’ regular season shutting the door in a 12-8 victory over Towson May 16. Smith pitched the eighth and ninth innings and did not allow a hit while striking out three in the heart of the Tigers’ lineup.
Miller is Northeastern’s first All-Rookie selection since Ryan Quigley in 2007. Miller hit in the leadoff spot for the Huskies in almost every game and ended the regular season with a .309 batting average. He was crucial to the squad for his ability to get on base and finished second on the team in runs scored (40) and third in on-base percentage (.390).
Miller is also very reliable in the field making only one error during the season while recording 103 catches and registering one assist.
This season the Huskies finished 13-11 in the CAA and qualified for the CAA Tournament for the first time since 2006 and will face Georgia State at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Brooks Field in Wilmington, N.C.
