Jeff Heriot leads off third base after tripling in the fourth inning.
In a rematch of last year’s Beanpot title game, defending champion Northeastern lost to Boston College 13-7 at Fenway Park on Wednesday.

The Huskies spotted BC a quick 5-0 lead in the first inning. Jason Delaney picked up the first of his three hits to drive home Josh DiScipio, who led off the game with a single, to give BC a 1-0 edge. Matt Lederhos (3-5) followed with an RBI double and then Ryan Leahy (2-4, 4 RBIs) reached on an error by Omar Pena to make it 3-0. Shawn McGill completed the uprising with a two-out, two-RBI single, which chased home two unearned runs.

NU got two runs back in the second inning when Tim Bush singled and Jeff Heriot (3-4, 3 RBIs) homered into the Green Monster seats. The Eagles scored two more before NU starter Jim Madison could retire a batter in the third inning for a 7-2 edge. Matt Piryk relieved and sent down six straight BC hitters. Meanwhile, the Huskies struck for two runs in the top of the fourth as Heriot hit a two-out triple to score Paul Kozlowski, who led off with a single. Heriot scored on a single by Matt Morizio.

The Huskies got no closer, however, as the Eagles scored six decisive runs in the fifth, four of them unearned thanks to three NU errors. Leahy had a two-run single and Ryan Morgan a two-run double to fuel the surge.

Down 13-4 heading into their last at-bat, the Huskies scored three runs in the ninth (all unearned) off BC reliever Matthew Duffey. David Preziosi, who relieved starter Matt O’Donnell in the fourth inning, pitched four strong innings, allowing just five hits and two runs to earn the win.

The Huskies will play in the third-place game at Fenway Park against UMass on Thursday at 2 p.m. Harvard defeated UMass 8-7 in the other semifinal.
