Northeastern sophomore righthander Devin Monds fanned nine batters over six innings for his second victory of the season, as the Huskies downed visiting Hartford, 7-4, in the first game of an America East doubleheader at Friedman Diamond on Friday.

The Huskies improved to 9-16 overall and 3-6 in the conference, while the Hawks fell to 3-22-1 and 1-4.

Chris Emanuele went 2-3 and scored two runs for the Huskies. Jeff Heriot continued to hit the ball well as he went 1-2 with an RBI and a run scored.

Northeastern broke open a 1-1 game in the fourth with a five-run inning. Paul Koslowski knocked in Emanuele, who had doubled to lead off. After Heriot was hit by a pitch from Jeff Swedberg, Tim Bush dropped a sacrifice bunt down the line. Swedberg tried to get Koslowski at third but threw the ball away, allowing him to score. Miguel Paquette followed with a two-RBI triple down the right field line, scoring Heriot and Bush. Matt Morizio hit a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Paquette to cap off the inning.

Hartford got on the board first in the top half of the third. With two outs, Cory Parker reached on an error by second baseman Omar Pena. Matt Denorfia walked after Parker stole second, putting runners on first and second. Ryan Cuscovich followed with an RBI single to center to plate Parker. Custovich went 2-4 on the day with a pair of RBIs and a run scored.

The Huskies answered with a run in the bottom half of the third. Arman Sidhu hit a two-out solo home run to knot the game at one. It was the first homer of Sidhu's career.
