Northeastern 9, Stony Brook 6 (game 1)
May 4, 2003
University Field (Stony Brook, NY)

Northeastern swept a doubleheader from Stony Brook on Sunday on the road. The Huskies won game one 9-6 behind an eight-run fifth inning.

The Seawolves jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second inning thanks to the bats of Garrett Renner and Lee Lipschutz. After Mike Russo reached on a bloop single, Jim McCurdy brought him home with a single to center. McCurdy scored to put the Seawolves up 2-0 after a double by Lipschutz and Renner added two more with a home run of the scoreboard in right.

The Huskies responded with eight runs in the top of the fifth. The rally began with a two-bagger by Arman Sidhu, who would later score on a single up the middle by Omar Pena. Pena then advanced to second on a blooper by Matt Morizio and both runners came home to make it 4-3 when Paul Koslowski doubled off the right field wall. The Huskies knotted the game at four when Koslowski (1-3, two RBIs) scored on a Seawolf error and then took control off a Chris Emanuele single that scored Brad Czarnowski. Northeastern added two more with a Tim Bush homer to left and scored the final run of the rally on a Sidhu (2-3, RBI) single to right that plated Jeff Heriot.

Matt Devins tried to bring the Seawolves back in the bottom half of the fifth with a two-run homer that scored Renner, but the rally came up short with the Huskies adding another in the top half on the seventh for the final of 9-6.

Justin Hedrick went the distance for Northeastern, allowing three earned runs on seven hits and striking out seven as he improved to 4-1 on the season.
