| 2003 Schedule/Results Northeastern 5, Stony Brook 4
In the bottom of the ninth, with the Huskies trailing 4-2, Brad Czarnowski led off the inning with a single. Arman Sidhu followed with a double down the right field line to put runners on second and third. Chris Emanuele then stepped to the plate and was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Tim Bush. He hit a grounder back to the pitcher that was misplayed, scoring Czarnowski and leaving the bases loaded. Jeff Heriot then hit what looked to be a potential double-play ball to the second baseman, but a bad bounce sent the ball into short right field, sending home both Sidhu and Emanuele for the 5-4 win.
The Huskies appeared to have the game won in the top of the ninth up 2-1. But with two away, Andrew Larsen hit a three-run homer off NU reliever Jordan Thomson to put Stony Brook ahead 4-2 heading into the last of the ninth.
Husky starter Brendan Ryan went eight and 1/3 innings and was charged with three runs. He had three strikeouts without a walk. After allowing the homer, Thomson recorded the final out of the ninth and picked up the win when the Huskies rallied. Stony Brook starter David Wood only allowed one earned run for the Seawolves, pitching eight strong innings, while Matt Restivo came on in the ninth and took the loss on the mound.
NU got on the board first in the bottom of the seventh inning, thanks to a pair of Stony Brook errors. With one out Jeff Maher reached on an error by Wood. Miguel Paquette followed with a single through the left side to put runners on first and second. After a Matt Morizio fly out, Mike Steinberg walked to load the bases. The Seawolves then committed their second error of the inning as a grounder to third by Sidhu couldn't be handled and Diego Garcia (who had pinch run for Maher), came around to score to give NU a 1-0 advantage.
The Seawolves struck back in the top of the eighth to tie the score 1-1. With one out, Lee Lipschutz singled and would later advance to second on a fly out. Jim McCurdy plated Lipschutz with a two-out single to center.
The Huskies took the lead back in the bottom half of the eighth. Heriot singled to center with one out, stole second and then advanced to third on an Omar Pena fly out. Pinch hitter Brian Nutting walked and Paquette followed with a single just under the glove of Stony Brook first baseman Mike Russo down the right field line, plating Heriot for a 2-1 lead.
The Huskies now advance to the championship round on Saturday and will play Stony Brook again at 10 a.m. The start time was moved up due to anticipation of rain. NU has not lost in the double-elimination tournament, so the Seawolves must defeat the Huskies twice to claim the title. Stony Brook 4 (31-20)
