The game was the second of a doubleheader. NU won the first game 5-3. The Huskies are now 10-7 overall, while Hartford is 5-11.
Ottavino (1-3), a freshman, finished with nine strikeouts over seven innings. He allowed four hits and walked five batters. Swedberg (2-3) allowed three hits over six innings, striking out one and issuing one walk. Joe Connelly pitched a perfect bottom of the seventh for his first save of the year.
With one out in the top of the seventh, Ryan Crowley singled to right field. Ottavino walked the next two batters to load the bases, then fanned Kyle O'Neill. Lead-off hitter Matt Denorfia walked to score the game winning run. Hartford’s Luke Trahan put an end to Ottavino’s no-hitter after 4 2/3 innings with a single to right field. Ottavino had retired 12 straight batters since walking two in the first inning.
