| 2004 Schedule/Results Northeastern 12, Massachusetts 8
Northeastern improves to 20-15 this season while UMass drops to 14-21.
Koslowski holds a 1-1 record this season after pitching six innings, allowing two runs while striking out six.
He allowed both runs in the first inning and then pitched brilliantly after a rocky first inning in which he allowed two runs. He got the Minutemen in order with two strikeouts in the second inning and allowed a harmless single in the third. In the fourth, he got UMass on three-straight fly-outs and then struck out two while getting the Minutemen in order in the fifth. UMass starter Anthony Gallo took the loss for the Minutemen, dropping to 1-1 on the season.
Down 2-0, the Huskies evened the score in the bottom of the first. Mike Steinberg hit a double down the left field line to lead-off
for the Huskies. Two batters later, Brad Czarnowski hit a triple that scored Steinberg and Jeff Heriot followed with a double that
plated Czarnowski.
Northeastern took the lead in the fourth inning when Jeff Maher hit a two-out double down the left field line that scored
Steinberg. Czarnowski then walked, putting men on first and second with two outs for Heriot. Heriot came up big again, hitting a
triple off the base of the wall in right-center that drove in two runs, giving NU a 5-2 lead.
The Huskies opened up a big lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. Bush led off with a single. Arman Sidhu then hit one to UMass
shortstop Mike Athas, who threw to second but wasn't in time to get Bush. Morizio then came up and hit one over the right field wall for his first homer of the season. Chris Lloyd then relieved Gallo and Lloyd allowed a single to Eric Murray. Czarnowski came to the plate with Murray on first and hit a line drive-homer over the left field wall, making the score 10-2.
The Huskies scored a run in both the seventh and the eighth innings. UMass rallied for six runs in the final three innings, but couldn't close the gap as Northeastern prevailed 12-8. Dave Pellegrine relieved Koslowski and pitched one and one-third innings, giving up three runs and Tim Bush tossed the final one and two-thirds, allowing three runs (one earned).
Northeastern travels to Binghamton, N.Y. this weekend to take on the Bearcats for three conference games.
