 Senior Jim Madison picked up his first win of the season after scattering nine hits and allowing two runs in the Huskies' 12-2 blowout of Valparaiso in Bradenton, Fla. |
NU (3-3) got the offense going early against Crusaders starter Kyle Obenauf (0-1). In the first, juniors Chris Emanuele and Arman Sidhu led off with back-to-back singles. Senior Jeff Heriot walked and then Obenauf walked senior Miguel Paquette to bring home Emanuele. Later in the inning, junior Matt Morizio, who went 3-4, singled to score Sidhu and give NU a 2-0 lead.
In the fourth with NU up 3-0, redshirt freshman Anthony Fantaroni singled to start the inning. Obenauf got the next two batters out before Heriot launched a home run over the right field fence, making it a 5-0 game.
Porter would add to the lead with a two-run double in the fifth and a two-run single in the seventh.
That was all that Madison (1-0) needed to beat Valparaiso (1-4). He scattered nine hits, giving up only two runs, walking two and striking out four. Senior Jim Piryk closed out the game with two scoreless innings.
Northeastern will finish the day with a game versus Air Force at 3 p.m.
