Northeastern 13, Air Force 6 (7 innings)
March 3, 2005
IMG Academies (Bradenton, Fla.)

The Northeastern baseball team rallied from a one-run defecit with a nine-run sixth inning to defeat Air Force, 13-6, in a rain-shortened six and a half innings in Bradenton, Fla.

The Huskies (4-3), down 5-4, began the marathon sixth inning with a double by senior Jeff Heriot and a walk to senior Miguel Paquette off of Air Force hurler Paul Pratt (1-3). After senior Tim Bush was hit by a pitch, junior Jeff Maher walked to bring home Heriot and tie the game. Sophomore Dan Milano then singled to right center, allowing Paquette and Bush to cross the plate. After junior Matt Morizio struck out, freshman Mike Lyon grabbed his first collegiate hit, a two-run single that brought home Maher and Milano. That made the score 9-5 in favor of the Huskies and ended Pratt’s day.

NU continued to pour it on against new pitcher Mitch Brown as junior Chris Emanuele singled and Heriot followed with a single that brought home Lyon. Emanuele scored when Air Force (3-9) catcher Jon Polston threw the ball into center trying to throw out Heriot, who stole second. Paquette walked and then two runs scored while Tim Bush was at the plate – Heriot scored on a passed ball and Paquette ran home on two wild pitches.

After the dust cleared, the Huskies had scored nine runs on five hits, drew four walks and capitalized on two errors, two wild pitches and two passed balls.

Freshman Kris Dabrowiecki (1-1) benefitted from the offensive explosion. He went six innings, giving up nine hits and three walks for his first collegiate victory. Two of the five runs he allowed were unearned. He labored throughout the day as he only had one inning in which he allowed no baserunners, but he got the big outs, leaving eight runners on base.

Freshman Mitch Duggins pitched the seventh, giving up a run and striking out two, before the umpires called the game.

Heriot broke out of his season-opening slump with a 3-4 game and two RBI. Coupled with his efforts in game one, he went 4-7 with a home run, a triple, four runs scored and four RBI on the day.

Junior Arman Sidhu continued his hot streak with a solo homer in the first inning while Milano went 2-3 with three runs batted in.

The Huskies will travel south to Fort Myers, Fla. for their second annual exhibition versus the 2004 World Champion Boston Red Sox tomorrow at 1 p.m. NU is scheduled to send senior Devin Monds to the mound while the Red Sox will throw knuckleballer Tim Wakefield.
