Sophomore Dave Pellegrine (1-1), a day after throwing against the Red Sox, threw six innings, but was in trouble most of the day, giving up 11 hits and four runs; he allowed at least one hitter to reach base in each inning.
The Huskies (4-4) jumped on Georgetown starter Eduardo Pena in the top of the first when junior Chris Emanuele led off the game with a single, stole second and took third on an errant throw by Hoyas catcher Andrew Cleary and then scored on a sacrifice fly by junior Arman Sidhu.
Georgetown (4-4) tied the game in the second, but NU re-took the lead, 2-1, in the fifth when freshman Mike Lyon brought home junior Brian Nutting with a sacrfice fly.
The Hoyas answered back in the bottom of the inning off of Pellegrine when Billy Quinn, with two on, hit a sacrifice fly to score Mark McLaughlin, who had walked. Designated hitter Ryan Craft followed that with a two-run homer to left field, giving the Hoyas a 4-2 lead.
Pena (1-1) meanwhile shut the Huskies down the rest of the way, allowing only two base runners during the remainder of his outing. He totaled eight innings, giving up three hits, three walks and three runs. He struck out eight Husky batters.
NU threatened in the top of the ninth when Pena walked senior Miguel Paquette and sophomore Dan Milano hit a pinch hit double off of reliever Michael Halloran. However, Hoya closer Thomas Braun entered and got Nutting to foul out to left, scoring Paquette, and junior Jeff Maher to fly out to end the game.
The Huskies will try to rebound from the loss when they play Bowling Green later today at 2:30 p.m.
