Sophomore Mike Lyon was 2-4 with a walk, RBI double and a run scored for NU (0-1), but the Huskies left nine men on base, unable to put enough runs to keep up with the Mastadons (2-2).
NU’s sophomore pitcher Bobby Carrington (0-1) started for the Huskies and allowed four runs in the first inning and four in the sixth. He walked seven and struck out three in five-plus innings. Freshman Tyler Thornton relieved Carrington and threw two and a third scoreless innings. Junior Tristan Besse got the final two outs.
Seniors Matt Morizio, Jeff Maher and Arman Sidhu all had two hits in the losing effort.
Andrew Porter (1-1) earned the win, pitching three innings of relief for IPFW.
The Huskies look to rebound when they play Central Michigan and Mount St. Mary’s tomorrow at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., respectively. NU’s scheduled starters are Dave Pellegrine and Trevor Smith.
