With runners on second and third and two outs in the fifth inning, Tamsin dumped a Josh Collmenter (1-2) pitch to left, scoring seniors Chris Emanuele and Arman Sidhu and giving NU a 3-0 lead.
Pellegrine (1-0) made the score hold up, allowing only five hits and one run. He struck out seven batters while walking five.
Junior Adam Ottavino pitched a scoreless eighth and senior Matt Morizio pitched a scoreless ninth to close out the win for the Huskies (1-1). Both pitchers struck out the side. Central Michigan’s last seven outs were strikeouts.
The Chippeawas (2-6) scored their lone run in the seventh inning on a pinch-hit RBI single by Eric Cannon.
The Huskies got their first run of the game in the third inning when Emanuele scored on a throwing error by CMU catcher Tyler Stovall, who was trying to throw out sophomore Mike Lyon on an attempted steal.
NU will play Mount St. Mary’s at 3 p.m. Freshman Trevor Smith gets the ball for Northeastern.
