The loss drops the Huskies (13-12, 8-4 CAA) into a third-place tie with Virginia Commonwealth while the Dukes (22-12, 11-4 CAA) move up to second place.
The Husky offense broke out of a slump, smacking three home runs. Seniors Chris Emanuele and Arman Sidhu hit back-to-back shots to left field off of JMU starter Ryan Reid to tie the game at 2-2 in the third inning. In the fourth, senior Brian Nutting hit his fourth homer of the season, a three-run blast to put NU up 5-2.
However, the Huskies and starter Kris Dabrowiecki were unable to hold the three-run lead. In the fifth, Kellen Kulbacki smacked a two-run double down the right-field line to cut the deficit to 5-4.
In the seventh inning, Dabrowiecki (3-1) put two runners on before giving way to Trevor Smith, who served up a bases-clearing double to Nate Schill to put the Dukes up 7-5.
NU had an opportunity to re-take the lead in the bottom of the seventh. Already one run home and the bases loaded with two outs, sophomore Josh Porter grounded the ball deep in the hole between first and second, but JMU second baseman Michael Cowgill made a diving stop and threw out Porter to secure the lead.
The Huskies left eight men on base in the game.
Kulbacki picked up his 17th home run of the season in the ninth inning for JMU.
Dabrowiecki took the loss after allowing six runs on seven hits in 6-1/3 innings. Reid earned the win despite serving up six runs on eight hits; he did strike out nine Huskies.
The Huskies will play at Holy Cross on Tue., April 11 at 3 p.m. Next weekend, they will be at first-place Old Dominion.

Friedman Diamond (Brookline, Mass.)Up 5-2 after four innings, the Northeastern baseball team was unable to hold a lead as James Madison scored five unanswered runs and held on to beat the Huskies 9-6 Sunday afternoon at Friedman Diamond.
