Northeastern 11, Holy Cross 4
In the seventh, the Huskies (14-12) put five runs on the board to break the 2-2 tie. Senior Jeff Maher led off the inning with an infield single and scored on Donaldson's double. Sophomore Mike Lyon, who hit a solo homer in the sixth inning, followed with an RBI double of his own to put NU up 4-2. Freshman Mike Tamsin and junior Dan Milano each hit sacrifice flies and senior Arman Sidhu, who was 3-5 with three runs scored, came home on a balk.
In the ninth inning, NU scored three runs when Tamsin went deep for a two-run homer and Maher doubled to the right-center gap to bring home redshirt freshman Jeff Thomson.
All the runs made a winner out of Mitch Duggins (1-0), who made his first start since March 4, 2004. Duggins went six innings, limiting the Crusaders (12-14-1) to one earned run on six hits while walking four and striking out four.
Holy Cross reliever Kevin Beglane (0-2) was staked with the loss after allowing two runs in one inning of work.
The Huskies will play a critical CAA series at Old Dominion beginning Friday night at 7 p.m.
