Senior Chris Emanuele and freshman Mike Tamsin led the offense today. Emanuele went 5-6, reaching base all six times he appeared at the plate. He had four singles, a triple and three RBI. Tamsin went 4-4 with four singles, a walk and two RBI, extending his hitting streak to 15 games.
For Emanuele, it was his first five-hit game of his career and first for the Huskies since Jeff Heriot was 5-6 against Binghamton on May 8, 2004.
Towson (14-28, 4-16 CAA) had gotten ahead of the Huskies (20-16, 13-7 CAA) early on, scoring five runs off of NU starter Dave Pellegrine (5-4) in the second inning. Pellegrine allowed three walks and a single before Demitrios Nomikos laid down a squeeze bunt to bring home a run. Then, Hans Falkenhan launched a double down the left field line to score two more runs. Brian Conley followed with an RBI single to center to make it 5-1 Tigers.
The Huskies answered back with four runs in the third with the big blow coming from freshman James Donaldson who tripled to right to drive in two runs. Sophomore Josh Porter, who was 3-5 today, and Emanuele each had RBI singles, tying the game at 5-5.
NU scored three unearned runs in the fifth inning, ending the day for Towson starter Jon Dupski (0-3), who went 4-2/3 innings and allowed eight runs, five of which was earned, on 13 hits.
In the sixth inning, the Huskies went up 10-6 when senior Matt Morizio homered to left-center and Emanuele picked up his fourth hit of the day, an RBI single that scored Donaldson.
Emanuele earned his fifth hit in the eighth inning when he tripled to dead center, scoring sophomore Mike Lyon, who also had a multi-hit day (2-5).
Pellegrine earned the win despite getting hit around. He pitched 7-2/3 innings, yielding seven runs on 11 hits. He walked four and struck out just one batter.
Morizio got the final four outs of the game for his eighth save of the season.
The two teams will play the rubber match of this three-game series tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. Sophomore Kris Dabrowiecki starts for the Huskies against Towson's Jason Volker.
