| 2006 Schedule/Results Hofstra 7, Northeastern 5
Mentrasti's double came off freshman reliever Trevor Smith and it scored Steve Oliveri, who singled to left off NU starter Kris Dabrowiecki (6-2). After a walk and a ground out, Smith then balked to bring home an insurance run for the Pride.
The Huskies had rallied from a 4-1 deficit to tie the game at 5-5 after junior Dan Milano hit a two-run homer off of David Huth (3-4) in the bottom of the eighth inning.
The Huskies (22-19, 15-9 CAA) scored first in the first inning when senior Chris Emanuele doubled, advanced to third on single by senior Matt Morizio and came home when freshman Mike Tamsin grounded into a double play.
Hofstra (21-28-1, 10-17 CAA) then pounced on NU starter Kris Dabrowiecki for four runs on five singles. Nick Panzarella had an RBI single, David Cole had a two-run single and Chris Mentrasti had an RBI single.
The Huskies responded in the bottom of the inning against Hofstra starter Patrick Rogers. With runners on second and third, sophomore Mike Lyon ripped a double to the gap in left center to cut the Pride's lead to 4-3.
Dabrowiecki and Rogers then matched zeroes for the next five innings as neither team could push across a run until the eighth inning.
Dabrowiecki pitched eight innings and allowed six runs on 11 hits in the losing effort. He walked one and struck out four.
Rogers went seven innings, allowing three runs on six hits. He walked two batters and struck out none. Huth earned the win despite allowing two runs in one inning of work. Rob DiFalco pitched the ninth for the Pride and earned his second save of the season.
The Huskies return to action Tue., May 7 when they host Central Connecticut at Friedman Diamond at 3 p.m.
