The win and UNC Wilmington's loss at James Madison means that the Huskies (26-21, 18-10 CAA) have clinched third place in the conference.
The game was historic for senior shortstop Arman Sidhu, who played in his 194th game as a Husky, most in school history.
Trailing 2-1 in the seventh inning, NU sophomore first baseman Josh Porter got the rally started with a single and was removed for junior pinch-runner Garrett Chin. Senior Brian Nutting followed with a single and both runners moved up a base when sophomore Mike Lyon sacrificed them over. Senior Chris Emanuele then drew a walk to load the bases with just one out.
That brought up Morizio, who laced a single to center to bring in Chin. Tamsin then followed by dropping a single to left to bring home Nutting and Emanuele and give the Huskies a 4-2 lead.
George Mason (20-30, 12-17 CAA) chipped in a run in the eighth inning and had the tying and go-ahead runs in scoring position, but the Huskies got out of the inning as Lyon gunned down a runner at the plate on a fielder's choice and freshman Trevor Smith got the final batter of the inning to ground out.
Smith (7-4) pitched four innings in relief of junior Dave Pellegrine and allowed one run on four hits, walking none and fanning two batters. Pellegrine had pitched five innings and yielded two runs on five hits while surrendering three walks and striking out six batters.
The Patriots had scored first in the second inning when a Pellegrine wild pitch allowed a runner to scamper home. NU tied the game in the third when Tamsin had an RBI groundout that scored Emanuele.
GMU had a 2-1 advantage in the fifth when Scott Krieger hit a run-scoring single for his seventh RBI of the series.
Brent Hitz (4-6) pitched 6-1/3 innings for George Mason and allowed three runs on six hits in a losing effort. He walked two and fanned three.
The two teams will wrap up the regular season tomorrow at 1 p.m.
