Northeastern 12, George Mason 5
May 20, 2006
Spuhler Field (Fairfax, Va.)

Senior Brian Nutting went 3-5 with four RBI and senior Chris Emanuele hit a two-run homer as the Northeastern baseball team completed a three-game sweep of George Mason with a 12-5 win Saturday afternoon in Fairfax, Va.

The Huskies (27-21, 19-10 CAA) finish the regular season in third place in the conference and will face Virginia Commonwealth in the first round of the CAA Tournament Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at Brooks Field in Wilmington, N.C.

NU fell behind 2-0 in the first inning when Scott Krieger and Casey Slattery hit back-to-back RBI singles off of sophomore Kris Dabrowiecki.

The Huskies answered back in the second inning with five runs. Junior Dan Milano, who was 3-4 with three runs scored, tripled to lead off the inning. Senior Jeff Maher then walked and senior Arman Sidhu hit an RBI single to score Milano. Sophomore Josh Porter grounded into a double play, but Maher moved to third base and scored when Nutting doubled to right. Sophomore Mike Lyon then singled home Nutting and Emanuele followed with his two-run homer, giving the Huskies a 5-2 advantage.

The Patriots (20-31, 12-18 CAA) tied the game in the third on a two-run double by Mike Laird and an RBI single by Matt York.

The Huskies, however, scored a run in each of the next three innings to take the lead for good. Porter hit an RBI single in the third, senior Matt Morizio hit an RBI double in the fourth and Nutting doubled home a run in the fifth.

NU added two runs in the sixth and two runs in the ninth to seal the win and complete the sweep.

In his final regular season start, Dabrowiecki pitched 4-2/3 innings and allowed five runs on eight hits, walking none and fanning four batters. Tristan Besse (1-0) earned the win after pitching 1-2/3 innings of shutout ball.

Mike Molica (3-3) started for GMU and suffered the loss after surrendering eight runs on 11 hits in 4-2/3 innings.

The Huskies had a successful regular season, but now they will compete for the CAA Tournament championship and an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament. The road to Omaha begins against Virginia Commonwealth on Wednesday, May 24 at 3:30 p.m.
