Ottavino (0-1) had the no-hitter through six innings, but gave up a single to Matt Wieters and then served up a two-run homer to Steven Blackwood to give the Yellow Jackets (14-0) a 2-1 lead that they would keep.
Ottavino had been steamrolling through the Tech lineup, including striking out six batters in the first three innings. He tossed seven innings and allowed just the two hits, walking three while striking out 12, tying his career high.
Ottavino stopped a Tech club that averaged 10 runs a game through its first 13 games of the season. A Georgia Tech opponent had not limited the Yellow Jackets to just two hits since UNC Asheville did it on Feb. 18, 1992.
The Huskies scored their only run in the sixth inning. Senior Matt Morizio was down 0-2 in the count with two outs and no one on and singled through the right side. Sophomore Nick DeVito then singled up the middle and senior Brian Nutting worked a walk to load the bases. Freshman James Donaldson was then hit by a pitch to score Morizio and put NU up 1-0.
Northeastern had opportunities to score more, but left 10 men on base.
Tech’s Chris Hicks (3-0) gets the win in relief after 1-1/3 innings. Tim Gustafson pitched the final two innings for his fourth save of the season.
The Huskies play in their first Colonial Athletic Association game on Friday when they play at Georgia State at 4 p.m. Junior Dave Pellegrine is the scheduled started for NU.
