The Panthers (7-6, 1-0 CAA) won the game in the eighth inning when Chase Childers bunted to sacrifice Aeden McQueary-Ennis over to third. On the play, senior Brian Nutting caught the ball to get Childers out, but the ball popped loose after the catch, allowing McQueary-Ennis to score GSU’s second and game-winning run.
The Huskies (3-3, 0-1 CAA) scored their lone run in the third inning when senior Jeff Maher singled through the left side to bring home sophomore Mike Lyon.
Dave Pellegrine (1-1) was the tough-luck loser, pitching a complete game, allowing just two runs on six hits. Pellegrine walked one and struck out six in a stellar performance.
Romas Hicks (2-2) pitched a complete game for the win, striking out 10 and allowing just seven hits.
Northeastern and Georgia State will continue their CAA series tomorrow at 2 p.m. at The Field in Panthersville. Sophomore Kris Dabrowiecki gets the ball for the Huskies.
