Emanuele was behind in the count, 0-2, when Clement hung a curveball that Emanuele crushed over the left field wall. Emanuele is no stranger to leadoff home runs; he hit three in 2005, including one on the first pitch of the game against Miami on March 2.
In the bottom of the first, junior Adam Ottavino allowed hits to Tony Graffanino and J.T. Snow, but he stranded them when he struck out Dustin Mohr and David Murphy to end the inning.
The Sox took the lead in the bottom of the second when they erupted for seven runs on five hits. NU answered back with a single run in the third inning off of David Pauley. Senior Brian Nutting singled and moved to second on freshman James Donaldson’s single. After a wild pitch advanced the runners, senior Arman Sidhu grounded out to second to bring home Nutting.
Boston scored twice more in the bottom half of the third to cap the scoring.
Nearly every Husky on the roster made it into the game in front of 5,975 fans. Freshman Mike Tamsin led the Huskies with two hits, an infield single in the fourth inning off of Pauley and an opposite-field double in the sixth off of Tim Bausher. Redshirt freshmen Trevor Smith and Aaron Greenblatt and sophomore Mitch Duggins pitched the final three innings, allowing just two baserunners.
The Huskies begin collegiate play against Indiana-Purdue tomorrow at 10 a.m. in Bradenton, Fla. Sophomore Bobby Carrington is scheduled to pitch for NU.
