Huskies pound UMass, 17-6, advance to Beanpot Final
The Huskies never looked back after Milano's first-inning grand slam. After scoring in each of the first three innings, NU tallied four runs in the fifth, five in the seventh and two in the ninth. Tony DiCesare, Mike Tamsin and Frank Compagnone each went 3-5 in the game. DiCesare had a double, three RBI and three runs scored, Tamsin also added three runs and an RBI and Compagnone smacked a double, drove in three and scored three runs. Frank Pessanello added a two-run triple and a sacrifice fly.
Garrett Chin had multiple hits for the second time in the last three games en route to a big day in which he was 2-3 with a double, two RBI and a run scored. Caleb Ginsberg also picked up his first hit of the year with a single in the ninth.
Dan Zehr pitched what was arguably his best game of the year as he improved to 3-2 after he gave up five hits, just one earned run and struck out two over six innings. Tristan Besse also made his first pitching appearance of the season as he came in to close out the game and shut down the Minutemen in order in the ninth.
Northeastern will play in the Beanpot Final at Fenway Park next Wednesday at 3 p.m. The Huskies are back in action tomorrow when the team hosts Georgia State in the first game of a three-game conference series at Friedman Diamond. Kris Dabrowiecki will be on the mound for the Huskies. First pitch is at 2 p.m.

Friedman Diamond (Brookline, MA)The Northeastern University baseball team has advanced to the Beanpot Final after crushing the University of Massachusetts Minutemen, 17-6, in the first round of the tournament at Friedman Diamond on Thursday afternoon. Dan Milano advanced his hitting streak to a school-record 19 games with a grand slam in the first inning. Every Husky starter had at least one hit in the game, as four Huskies had multiple hits. Although the game was played at Friedman Diamond, the Huskies were the away team, as the Minutemen were scheduled to be the home team in the originally scheduled game at Fraser Field.
