Huskies lose heartbreaker to UConn
Frank Compagnone, who was a triple shy of the cycle on the day, got the Husky offense started in the second inning with an inside-the-park home run, the first home run of his Husky career. The Huskies put two more runs on the board in the third, paced by a Mike Lyon double and a Dan Milano triple. NU then extended its lead to 6-1 in the fourth with Mike Lyon and Mike Tamsin driving in runs. Finally, Tamsin and Milano hit back-to-back doubles in the bottom of the ninth to score another run, but the Huskies' ninth-inning comeback fell a run short.
Charly Bashara was a horse out of the bullpen for the Huskies, throwing over 120 pitches and striking out eight in 6-1/3 innings of relief before he was removed from the game with one down in the top of the ninth. Compagnone then relieved Bashara and UConn rallied for back-to-back homers to capture the lead and seal the game.
The Huskies drop to 21-18 on the season and Connecticut improves to 22-23. The team will be back in action on Wednesday at 3 p.m. when it hosts Massachusetts in a non-conference game at Friedman Diamond. The Huskies beat the Minutemen earlier this season, 17-6, in the first round of the Beanpot Tournament.

Friedman Diamond (Brookline, MA)The Northeastern University baseball team took a 6-4 lead into the ninth inning, but Connectictut rallied for four runs in the top of the ninth and came away with an 8-7 win over the Huskies at Friedman Diamond on Monday afternoon.
