Huskies fall to Seahawks in 11 innings
It was an old-fashioned pitcher's duel between Jeff Thomson and the Seahawks' Daniel Cropper. Thomson tossed 8-1/3 innings, giving up six hits, no walks and two runs (one earned), while striking out four. Cropper scattered eight hits and two runs over seven innings, while striking out five. Larry Salefsky picked up the win after holding the Huskies scoreless in the final three innings.
The Huskies had an early lead once again as captain Dan Milano smacked his team-leading 10th homer of the season to lead off the second inning and put NU up 1-0. The only other Husky run came in the fifth inning when Tony DiCesare, who was 2-5 on the day, doubled in Frank Pesanello from second. Neither team scored again until Wilmington's Daniel Hargrave hit a walk-off sacrifice fly against Ryan Quigley in the bottom of the 11th inning.
DiCesare, Milano and Frank Compagnone all had two hits in the game for the Huskies. NU drops to 21-16 overall and 10-12 in the CAA, while Wilmington improves to 23-25 on the season and 14-11 in the CAA. The final game of the three-game series will be played on Sunday at 12 p.m. Trevor Smith (5-3) will take on the Seahawks' Bradley Holt (4-5).
