David Gustafson homered for the Huskies
The Northeastern Huskies battled tough against the No. 25 Ohio State Buckeyes Saturday afternoon in Winter Haven, Fla. but would go down in defeat 11-8 in their final game in Central Florida Invitational.
The Huskies were trailing 5-0 when they took to bat in the top of the fourth and the Huskies bats, along with some helpful wild pitches, sparked the Huskies to a five run inning. David Gustafson, Mike Tamsin, and James Donaldson all came across to score. As the bases were loaded Matt Miller smoked a single to right which drove in Ryan Kemp and Brendan Stokes to tie the game at five.
Ohio State would continue to put their bat to the ball collecting 13 hits during the game. Ryan Quigley pitched well for the Huskies, only giving up five earned runs, but errors would do the Huskies in as they gave up five unearned during his time on the mound. Quigley pitched 5-1/3 striking out four batters.
In the top of the ninth the Huskies hit back-to-back home runs when both David Gustafson and Mike Tamsin hit shots to deep left field in almost identical locations.
Even with the ninth inning runs it would prove to be to much as the Huskies could not make up all 11 runs and move to 7-3 on the season. The Huskies next game will be in South Orange, N.J. when the Huskies face Iona on Friday.
