Huskies win marathon game over NJIT, 5-4

It took 14 innings to decide a winner Sunday morning between the Northeastern Huskies and NJIT but in the bottom of the 14th inning Matt Miller finished off a huge game coming across to score and give the Huskies the win, 5-4.

NJIT took an early 4-0 lead before the Huskies added two in the 5th and 6th innings. In the fifth Mike Tamsin drove Sam Berg and David Gustafson with a single through left field.

In the sixth Chris Guillemette scored and Sam Berg scored to even the score, both runs unearned.

The bottom of the sixth would signal the end of the scoring for the next seven innings before arriving in the bottom of the 14th. Matt Miller started the Huskies with a single, and David Gustafson bunted him to second base. With Miller on second Tamsin singled to left center scoring the winning run and ending the marathon four hour-fifteen minute game.

Four Huskies pitchers kept NJIT at bay for most of the game. Les Williams went a strong four to start the game for the Huskies. Charly Bashara added three and a third striking out five. Russ Llloyd pitched one inning before Dan Zehr would come in to pitch the next five and two-thirds to get the win.

The Huskies begin conference play this coming weekend as they take on James Madison starting Friday at 3 p.m.
