Huskies lose to Dukes, 7-2

Long Field (Harrisonburg, Va.)

Northeastern dropped their 2009 CAA season opener by a score of 7-2 to the James Madison Dukes Friday afternoon. Northeastern put up two runs in the eighth inning and received strong pitching from Ryan Quigley but the Dukes proved to be to much.

Ryan Quigley went seven strong innings for the Huskies striking out nine batters. In the 26 batters Quigley faced he only allowed eight hits which the Dukes manufactured into five runs. Charly Bashara pitched the final inning for the Huskies allowing two runs.

With the bat Matt Miller continued his hot pace going 2-4 with a RBI. Also with a RBI was David Gustafson. Devin Barry started the eighth with a double to left center and following him James Donaldson singled to right moving Barry to third. Matt Miller would score Barry with a single up the middle. With two runners on David Gustafson hit a double which scored James Donladson, the two Husky runs in the ball game.

The Huskies take on James Madison again tomorrow at 1 p.m., Jeff Thomson will take to the hill for the Huskies.
