Huskies drop Dukes, 2-1

Long Field (Harrisonburg, Va.)

The Huskies avoided the sweep at the hands of the James Madison Dukes taking game three 2-1 on Sunday afternoon. Trevor Smith picked up the win and James Donaldson hit a home run in the Huskies victory.

Northeastern once again opened the early lead when James Donaldson hit his first home run of the season. Donaldson lead of the third and on the 2-1 pitch smacked the ball to right center clearing the fence.

The Dukes would tie the game in the sixth but the Huskies would reclaim the lead for good in the eighth inning off a Frank Pesanello double. Mike Tamsin singled up the middle and from first Pesanello doubled to left center bringing Tamsin around from first to score.

Les Williams pitched strong for the Huskies going five and two-thirds only allowing four hits and gave up one run. Trevor Smith pitched the final three and two-thirds and gets the win. Smith only allowed three hits and struck out four.

Northeastern gets right back to work Monday at 3 p.m. when they host UConn at Friedman Diamond.
