NU falls to Connecticut 6-4

The Huskies took a break from their grueling CAA schedule for a non-conference affair with the University of Connecticut. The game was initially delay by more than an hour by a miscommunication with the umpiring crew. The Huskies would drop the game 6-4. As the game got underway UConn took an early 2-0 lead.

In the fourth inning the Huskies scored their first run of the ball game. Mike Tamsin started things with a single up the middle followed by a James Donaldson double to right field moving Tamsin to third. With runners on second and third Frank Pesanello grounded out to short but Donaldson scored on the play making it a 2-1 ball game.

UConn added another run in the fifth but the NU battled to make it a one run game again the bottom of the sixth inning. Frank Compagnone started the inning with a double down the left field line and was advanced to third with a Mike Tamsin ground out. James Donaldson drilled a single up the middle scoring Compagnone to bring the Huskies within a run.

Once again UConn built the lead back to two runs in the top of the seventh but in the bottom of the frame the Huskies struck again as David Gustafson scored from third off a Sam Berg sacrifice fly to make it a one run ball game. The Huskies tied game off a Matt Miller double which scored Ryan Maguire from second to tie the game at four at the end of seven.

UConn scored two runs in the top of the ninth inning and it would prove to be to much for the Huskies to over come.

The Huskies return to the Diamond on Tuesday afternoon as they travel to face Harvard at 3:30 p.m.
