Huskies beat Tribe in 11, 6-5

Frank Pesanello had the game-winning RBI against William & Mary April 4.

In game one of the double header against the William & Mary Tribe. The game would go into extra innings the fifth such game of the season. Northeastern would score two runs in the bottom of the 11th to get the walk-off win 6-5.

The Huskies took the lead in the bottom of the first inning. David Gustafson doubled to deep center field as the Huskies first base runner of the game. After Mike Tamsin flew out to left, James Donaldson ripped a hard hit single bringing Gustafson in to score. The hit extends Donaldson's hit streak to nine games.

In the bottom of the fourth Mike Tamsin reach base with a lead off walk. With Tamsin on first James Donaldson hit a stand up triple that hit the wall in deep center bringing Tamsin in to score giving the Huskies the two-run advantage. Frank Pesanello continued the inning with a double off the wall to score Donaldson bringing the Huskies lead to three.

The Huskies ran into some trouble in the sixth inning as the Tribe rallied to score three runs but Trevor Smith, who came in relief for Ryan Quigley, was able to get the Huskies out of the inning without losing the lead.

William & Mary would tie the game in the top of the eighth inning at four and for the fifth time this season the Huskies would go to extra innings.

William & Mary would break the tie in the top of the eleventh inning when Chris Jensen hit a sacrifice fly to score Brett Conner from third and give W&M a 5-4 lead.

The Huskies began to rally in the bottom if the 11th after Matt Miller led things off with a walk. Gustafson moved Miller to second and a wild pitch landed Miller to third. After Mike Tamsin walked James Donaldson hit a single to tie the game at 5. With only one out the Huskies got loaded bases.

With full Huskies aboard Frank Pesanello hit a single to score Tamsin giving the Huskies the walk-off win.

Following a brief break, game two between the Huskies and the Tribe will follow. Jeff Thomson is expected to start for the Huskies.
