Huskies fall to William & Mary in 12

Frank Pesanello hit a homer in a 5-4 loss to William & Mary.

Northeastern fell to the Tribe of William & Mary in a 12 inning game Sunday afternoon. William & Mary tied the game in the top of the ninth and took the lead in the 12th to get the victory.

The Huskies got on the board first in the bottom of the third inning. David Gustafson started things for the Huskies with a single up the middle. Mike Tamsin followed Gustafson's single with a double to left scoring Gustafson. Tamsin would steal third and on the play William & Mary catcher Chris Jensen would throw the ball in the dirt. As the ball rolled to the outfield Tamsin made his way home giving the Huskies the edge.

William & Mary would take a lead of their own scoring three runs in the top of the fourth inning making the score 3-2. The score would stay 3-2 until the bottom of the fifth when the Huskies tied it up.

Matt Miller started the inning drawing a walk. When Miller was on first a balk was issued to Jeremy Neustifter moving Miller to second. With Miller on second Mike Tamsin hit a single to left moving Miller to third.

James Donaldson came to bat with Tamsin on first and Miller on third. The Huskies put the squeeze on and things went sour for the Tribe. The ball got away from catcher Jensen allowing Miller to score on the passed ball.

After seven strong innings Les Williams day was over and would not factor into the decision. Williams allowed only five hits while allowing three runs. Williams struck out five.

In the eighth Matt Davenport came in for the Tribe. On Davenport's first pitch of the game Frank Pesanello drilled the ball to deep left over the William & Mary bullpen. It was Pesanello's second home run of the weekend, his third of the season.

William & Mary would tie the game in the top of the ninth inning at four and the Huskies would go to their sixth extra inning game of the year.

David Gustafson drew a walk in the 11th and was able to advance to second after a passed ball. The Tribe elected to walk Tamsin to create the force out bringing James Donaldson to bat with two down and two men on. Donaldson hit a long fly to left but the Tribe would escape the Huskies threat.

William & Mary would take the lead in the top of the 12th inning on a long sacrifice fly by Rob Nickle.

The Huskies are back in action Monday against Marist at 3 p.m.
