Coach McPhee wins 600 in 7-5 victory over DBU

Huskies coach Neil McPhee won his 600th game as the Huskies head coach in Northeastern's 7-4 victory over Dallas Baptist in game two of the doubleheader. Northeastern opened the game up in the sixth inning scoring six runs and would hold onto the lead and pick up the victory. The win marks Northeastern's first win over Dallas Baptist in four tries.
The Huskies scored the first run of the ball game in the first inning when Matt Miller came across to score as James Donaldson hit into a bases loaded double play but the Patriots would tie the game at one in the bottom of the fifth inning.
The Huskies regained the lead in the top of the sixth inning exploding for six runs. The inning started off well when Mike Tamsin, James Donaldson and Frank Pesanello hit three straight singles, the Pesanello single scoring Tamsin. It was the third run of the day for Tamsin as he scored the two runs in game one of the doubleheader.
With James Donaldson on second base and Frank Pesanello on first Frank Compagnone hit a long sacrifice to right field which allowed James Donaldson to advance to third. Brendan Stokes then drilled a single to left scoring Donaldson and giving the Huskies a 3-1 lead.
The Huskies would keep it going in the sixth adding another three runs before the inning came to close. Sam Berg hit a single to right scoring Frank Pesanello from second base. Matt Miller followed Sam Berg with a double to left field scoring Brendan Stokes from third. David Gustafson came to bat with two runners in scoring position and hit a double off the left field wall scoring both Sam Berg from third and Matt Miller from second. Through five and a half the Huskies had a 7-1 lead.
Dan Zehr would come in during the seventh inning and protect the Huskies lead picking up his second save of the season. Zehr had two strike outs and a pop out in the ninth inning to secure the win. Jeff Thomson moves to 4-3 with the victory.
Northeastern is back in action on Saturday in the rubber match against Dallas Baptist at 2 p.m.
