Huskies fall to Georgia State in game one

The Huskies fell to Georgia State in game one of their doubleheader Saturday afternoon. The Huskies had a 3-2 advantage going into the top of the seventh when GSU scored three runs to take the lead and hold on for the victory.

Ryan Quigley started the first inning for the Huskies a bit shaky issuing two walks and one hit batsmen. After getting one run across Georgia State would struggle against Quigley who pitched beautifully his remaining innings.

The Huskies would take the lead in the bottom of the third. Ryan Maguire laid down a text book bunt down the third base line to get on first. Matt Miller would move Maguire to second with a single up the middle. With runners on first and second Frank Compagnone hit a double down the right field line.

The Huskies would take a 2-1 lead while still in the third as Matt Miller scored off a Mike Tamsin groundout to short. James Donaldson scored Compagnone from third with a single to right field and at the end of the third inning the Huskies had a 3-1.

Ryan Quigley would leave the game after 5-1/3 allowing two runs, only one of them earned. Quigley struck out seven, walked three, and allowed only four hits.

The Panthers would regain the lead in the top of the seventh innings when Chase Childers hit a two run single to right field. By the end of the inning the Panthers would score three runs and would end six and a half with a 5-3 advantage.

The Huskies tried to rally in the bottom of the ninth but Robinson Polanco would finish off his complete game and give the Panthers the victory.

Game two will follow 20 minutes after game one's conclusion. Jeff Thomson will get the start for the Huskies.
