Huskies split doubleheader with Panthers

In game two of the doubleheader between the Huskies and the Georgia State Panthers the Huskies came away winners silencing the Panthers 4-1. Jeff Thomson was dominant on the mound and the Huskies got the runs they needed in the fourth inning.

The Huskies scored the first runs of the ball game. The Huskies started the inning with three straight hits, a Mike Tamsin single up the middle, James Donaldson infield single and followed by a Frank Pesanello double down the left field line.

Pesanello's double scored Tamsin and moved Donaldson to third. With runners on second and third Brendan Stokes grounded to shot but moved both runners up a bag, scoring Donaldson. The Huskies would another run off a David Gustafson single scoring Pesanello.

The Huskies added another run in the fifth when Mike Tamsin hit a long sacrifice fly to bring Matt Miller in from third. Miller got on base via a stand up double down the left field line. Through five full innings of play the Huskies had a 4-0 advantage.

Jeff Thomson was brilliant all game. Thomson pitched seven and a third allowing only six hits and one run to pass. Thomson struck out seven and allowed no walks.

Dan Zehr would pitch the final inning and two thirds and earned his fourth save of the season. The Huskies did not issue one walk in the entire ball game.

Northeastern will face Georgia State in the rubber match on Sunday at 12:15 p.m.
