Huskies fall to VCU 7-2

The Huskies returned to CAA play Friday afternoon hosting the Virginia Commonwealth Rams. The Huskies fell to VCU by a score of 7-2. The Huskies received a home run by Frank Pesanello and a nice outing by Ryan Quigley but the two were not enough to hold back the Rams.

The Huskies took the lead in the bottom of the second inning when Frank Pesanello hit his seventh home run of the season. Pesanello now has 36 in his career, one shy from tying the all-time Northeastern record of 37 set by Tim Daley in 1998.

The Huskies would be able to get a few base runners on but Ian Thomas, who pitched a complete game, and the VCU Rams were able to keep the Huskies from crossing home plate until the eighth.

VCU had a run in the third, a run in the fifth and then opened up in the seventh bringing three runs across putting the Huskies in a 5-1 hole after seven innings of play.

Ryan Quigley left the game after 6-2/3 allowing four hits and three runs, only two of which were earned. Quigley struck out seven batters and walked two. Dan Zehr would get the final out in the seventh.

In the eighth inning Russ Lloyd came in for the Huskies and the Rams were able to bring two more runs across after the Huskies committed their fifth error of the ballgame. Aaron Greenblatt came into pitch the ninth for the Huskies.

In the bottom of the eighth the Huskies were able to bring a run across as Ryan Maguire scored from third when Frank Compagnone grounded into a double play. Maguire reached first with a bunt single.

Frank Pesanello and Matt Miller both had multiple hit games for the Huskies. Pesanello went 3-4 with a home run and Miller went 2-4.

Northeastern is back in action on Saturday when they host the Rams at 2 p.m. on Friedman Diamond.
