Huskies fall to Harvard 16-13

O'Donnell Field (Cambridge, Mass.)

In the final tune up before the Huskies face the league leading George Mason Patriots on Friday the Huskies traveled three miles to O'Donnell Field to face the Harvard Crimson. The Huskies took a big lead in the first inning but Harvard would battle back to take a lead in the seventh and Harvard would hold on to win.

The Huskies came out swinging to start the game as they brought a season high seven runs across. David Gustafson and Frank Compagnone scored on wild pitches and Brendan Stokes had a RBI double but the inning was highlighted by Ryan Maguire's grand slam to left field. Maguire now has three home runs this season, all coming within the last two weeks.

Northeastern made it a nine run ball game when Ryan Kemp launched a two run homer to right field scoring Devin Barry. It was the first home run for freshmen Ryan Kemp in his career.

Brandon McNelis would leave the ball game after pitching four strong innings allowing only three hits while striking out four. While McNelis did not throw enough innings to qualify for the win he still left the Huskies in excellent position after this four innings.

Harvard would answer Huskies with an incredible seventh inning in which they scored 10 runs against three Husky pitcher. The score was 14-9 after the seventh inning.

Northeastern brought the game within one in the top of the eighth as Brendan Stokes and Devin Barry both came across to score in the inning. Also scoring in the eighth were Ryan Kemp and David Gustafson.

The Huskies would fall behind 16-13 going into the ninth and could not get enough runs across.

The Huskies return to the diamond on Friday as they travel to Fairfax, Va. to face George Mason.
