Huskies fall to George Mason 9-6

The Huskies fell in game one to the George Mason Patriots on Friday afternoon 9-6. Despite falling behind 8-0 the Huskies were able to battle back and get back in the game but could not get the tying run across.

George Mason scored eight runs in the first two innings as Ryan Quigley struggled to get in a grove but after the first two innings Quigley settled down quite nicely striking out six batters in five innings of work.

Northeastern began to mount their comeback in the top of the third inning when James Donaldson hit a double scoring Mike Tamsin and Frank Compagnone. Tamsin has a team leading 33 runs scored.

The Huskies made it an 8-4 ball game when David Gustafson hit his second home run of the season to left. Northeastern continued to rally in the sixth bringing another trio of runs across. Matt Miller scored David Gustafson off a single. Mike Tamsin followed with a single driving in two more runs during the inning.

George Mason would add another run in the bottom of the sixth inning making the score 9-6 through six full innings.

The Huskies were trailing 9-6 going into the top of the ninth inning. Mike Tamsin started the inning drawing a four pitch walk. Tamsin would move to scoring position after a wild pitch. James Donaldson and Frank Pesanello both would be forced out leaving Brendan Stokes as the final batter and he would hit a long fly to center but it would end the game despite the Huskies valiant comeback.

Dan Zehr pitched the final three innings for the Huskies allowing only two hits in the 11 batters faced.

The Huskies will try and rebound against George Mason on Saturday with a double header at 11 a.m.
