May 8, 2009
Friedman Diamond (Brookline, Mass.)

In the start of a critical three-game set against Delaware the Huskies started game one off on the right foot winning 5-2. Trevor Smith improved to 4-2 on the season pitching six scoreless innings before the Blue Hens got a run across in the seventh.

The Huskies scored the first run of the ball game in the fourth inning. Mike Tamsin starter the inning with single up the middle followed by a James Donaldson double that bounced off the top of the right field fence. Frank Pesanello launched a long fly ball that scored Tamsin from third. It was the 29th RBI of the season for Pesanello.

The Huskies added another handful of runs in the fifth inning when first Ryan Maguire came across to score. Maguire lead the inning off with a double which was followed up by two straight Husky singles. The RBI went to Frank Compagnone with his single up the middle scoring Maguire.

The Huskies would continue to put the pressure on in the fifth inning after Mike Tamsin drew a walk to load the bases for James Donaldson. Donaldson drew a walk to bring in Matt Miller from third to give the Huskies a 3-0 lead. Jeff Dunlap would single up the middle with the bases loaded and brought in two runs.

Delaware would finally bring a run across in the seventh inning after Trevor Smith held them scoreless through the first six. Scott Shockley hit a double to left center scoring Pat Dameron who got on via a walk. Shockley was brought in to score as well making it a 5-2 ball game after seven.

Trevor Smith left the ball game after seven beautiful innings. Smith allowed six hits, two runs and struck out four batters. Les Williams came in relief Smith.

Williams would sit the Hens down in the eighth and got the first two outs in the ninth before Shockley hit a home run to left to make it a 5-3 ball game. Williams got Kyle Davis to fly to center to protect the lead and earn the save.

The Huskies return to the field on Saturday at 12 p.m as they will face the Blue Hens in game two. Saturday is also Huskies Baseball Alumni Day. All former players, friends and families are encouraged to attend. Former coach John "Tinker" Connelly will also be honored at the event.
