Huskies win big game two against Delaware, 8-5

The Huskies kept their playoff hopes alive with their second straight conference victory taking down Delaware 8-5. Ryan Quigley picked up and win as the Huskies offense continued to pour on the runs.
Delaware started the game with a bang as as Ryan Cuneo drilled a two-run home run in the top of the first inning. Delaware would add two more runs in the third inning after the Huskies started the inning with an error. After two and a half innings it was a 4-0 Delaware lead.
Northeastern would begin to claw back in the third inning as Matt Miller came across to score off an error on the third basemen. James Donaldson would drive a double to right center to score Frank Compagnone and Mike Tamsin to drop the UD lead to one run. After three innings of play it was a 4-3 ball game.
Northeastern tied the game in the fourth inning when Frank Compagnone hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Ryan Maguire. In the fifth the Huskies took the lead when Jeff Dunlap hit his first career home run to right field.
Delaware tied the game in the tip of the sixth with a home run of their own, Josh Dean slammed the Ryan Quigley pitch to right center to tie the game at five.
In the sixth inning the Huskies had runners on the corners with one away when Frank Compagnone stepped into the batters box. The Blue Hens ended the day of Brad Miller with two runs aboard to bring in Corey Crispell. Compagnone would make UD skipper Jim Sherman question his decision as he drilled a double to center scoring Sam Berg from third.
James Donaldson would follow Compagnone with a double to right field bringing in another pair of runs to give the Huskies a three run advantage. At the end of six full innings of play the Huskies had an 8-5 lead.
Dan Zehr would come in from the seventh inning as Ryan Quigley pitched a very effective six. Quigley struck out 12 batters, a new career high as he allowed only six hits, five runs, and three earned runs.
Dan Zehr would close out the ball game and earn his seventh save of the season.
In a ceremony before the game senior third basemen Mike Tamsin was presented with the John "Tinker" Connelly Most Valuable Player Award. Tinker himself was presented with the Lifetime Achievemnt Award by head coach Neil McPhee. Connelly was not only a stand out three-sport athlete at Northeastern but also a long time coach and supporter of the baseball program. In the final of the three awards present head coach Neil McPhee was present with a commerative jersey and banner marking his 600th career win which came April 10 in a 7-5 victory over Dallas Baptist.
The Huskies return to the Diamond Sunday afternoon in game three against the Blue Hens.
