Huskies fall to GSU in game one of CAA Tournament

In the second CAA game of the day to be decided on a walk off the Georgia State Panthers took the ball game 6-5 against NU. Errors proved to be the downfall of the Huskies as they allowed three in the ball game resulting in at least two runs.

The Panthers were struggling to get the ball out of the infield and through the first four innings only had two balls leave the infield. In the bottom of the fourth inning Bradley Logan hit a screamer down the third base line and that Mike Tamsin was able to knock down and off-balance heave a throw all the way across the diamond to get Logan by mere inches.

In the top of the fifth the Huskies would take their fist lead of the ball game as Mike Tamsin came across to score. Tamsin was walked on five pitches and on a botched pick-off attempt was moved to second base. Donaldson ripped a single into left as Tamsin hopped on his horse and made it around to give the Huskies the one run lead.

A three-hit, two-error fifth inning for Georgia State gave the Panthers a 3-1 lead. Of the three runs that scored two ended up as earned and one as unearned.

Brendan Stokes took a 1-0 pitch deep to left field to make it a 3-2 ball game, it was Stokes fifth home run of the season.

Les Williams would enter to the game for the sixth inning. Trevor Smith threw 66 pitches for the Huskies allowing four hits and three runs, two of them earned. Smith struck out two and walked no batters.

Georgia State made it a 4-2 ball game in the bottom of the sixth but in the seventh the Huskies responded again to knock the lead down to one and chasing Aidan Francis from the ball game. After James Donladson was walked the bases were loaded for catcher Frank Pesanello was struck out and following him Brendan Stokes hit into a double play to keep the Panthers with a 4-3 lead.

The Huskies took the lead in the top of the eighth inning when Frank Compagnone hit a two-out bloop single to right that scored Ryan Maguire and Matt Miller making it a 5-4 Huskies advantage.

The Panthers tied the ball game in the bottom of the eighth innings after a few Husky miscues allowed Derek Simmons came all the way around to score without a ball being put in play.

The Huskies only managed one hit in the top of the ninth inning coming with two outs keeping the game tied going into the bottom of the ninth. In the bottom of the ninth Georgia State put two runners when Derek Simmons hit a single to right field field to score Michael McCree and give the Panthers the walk off victory.

The Huskies will play Delaware at noon on Thursday. It is an elimination game for each squad.
