Junior Jeff Thomson threw his third consecutive complete game to begin the season, guiding the Northeastern University baseball team to a 5-3 win in the first game of a doubleheader against Delaware at Bob Hannah Stadium in Newark, Del. on Saturday. Thomson's complete-game effort came in what was a seven-inning contest against the Fightin' Blue Hens.

The Huskies jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning and led from that point on. Shortstop and senior captain Mike Lyon and sophomore left fielder David Gustafson were the offensive standouts. Lyon finished a perfect 4-4 with two doubles and a run scored, while Gustafson added three doubles of his own, an RBI and a run scored.

In his complete-game performance, Thomson gave up just four hits, one earned run and surrendered just one walk. His record on the season improves to 2-1.

Northeastern improved to 7-5 overall and 1-1 in the CAA while Delaware dropped to 4-12 on the season and 1-4 in the CAA.
