Huskies split doubleheader vs. Rams
The Huskies split a doubleheader vs. Rhode Island at Friedman Diaomond on Tuesday afternoon. The Rams took the first game, 10-2, while the Huskies won game two by a score of 8-3. Mike Lyon and Frank Pesanello hit back-to-back homers in the first inning of game two. Pesanello's home run was his NU record 19th of the season and he led the Huskies with five hits on the day. Tyler Thornton picked up his first career win in game two. NU begins its final CAA series of the season on Thursday at 2 p.m. when it hosts James Madison at Friedman Diamond.

Alumni Day on May 17
The Huskies' final home game of the season on Saturday, May 17 against James Madison will be Alumni Day at Friedman Diamond. In addition, it will also be Senior Day for the graduating members of the team. Alumni are invited to arrive at the field around 11 a.m. and a cookout will begin at 11:30 a.m. For those who cannot make it at the beginning of the festivities, the cookout will go on throughout the game and Alumni are encouraged to show up at any time throughout the day.

Huskies win 6-3 at BC
The Huskies won their third straight game on Sunday afternoon, defeating Boston College 6-3 in a non-conference game at Commander Shea Field in Chestnut Hill, Mass. James Donaldson led the Huskies with three hits and Tony DiCesare cranked what was eventually the game-winning, two-run homer in the fourth inning. Charly Bashara started for the Huskies and got the win, while Dan Zehr notched his fourth save of the season.

Huskies set new HR record
Tony DiCesare's home run at Boston College on Sunday gave the Huskies 54 home runs as a team this season, breaking last year's team record of 53. Frank Pesanello and Mike Lyon have led the way with 30 home runs between them on the season. The Huskies have five games this week in which they can add on to their new record. (5/12/08)

Huskies top Tribe 8-1 in rubber game
Ryan Quigley pitched a five-hit, one-run, 10-strikeout complete game and Frank Pesanello hit a pair of three-run homers as the Huskies beat William & Mary 8-1 in the deciding game of a three-game series at Plumeri Park Saturday afternoon. Pesanello's pair of homers gave him 18 on the season, adding on to his single-season record of 16 that he set on Tuesday. The Huskies play Boston College tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Commander Shea Field in Chestnut Hill, Mass.

Carlin called up to Padres
Former Husky catcher Luke Carlin was called up to the San Diego Padres on Friday. He was batting .387 with three home runs, 11 RBI and a .574 on-base percentage with the Triple-A Portland Beavers this season before being called up to the Padres. In three seasons at NU from 2000-02, Carlin batted .326 with 15 home runs and 97 RBI in 148 games. Joining reigning American League Comeback Player of the Year and Silver Slugger recipient Carlos Pena, the Huskies now have two players represented in the Major Leagues.

Huskies top W&M, 10-4
The Huskies beat William & Mary 10-4 at Plumeri Park in Williamsburg, Va. on Friday night. Every Husky starter recorded a hit, with Mike Tamsin leading the way with a three-hit game. Les Williams and David Gustafson homered for NU, while Jeff Thomson fought hard to get the win, despite giving up 14 hits over seven innings. The deciding game of the series is tomorrow at 2 p.m. Ryan Quigley pitches for the Huskies.

Huskies drop tough one at Tribe
The Huskies led through the first seven innings of the game, but an eighth inning rally by William & Mary left the Huskies with a 7-5 loss at Plumeri Park in Williamsburg, Va. on Thursday night. Kris Dabrowiecki gave the Huskies a strong start in his return to the starting rotation, but Sheldon McDonald took the loss in relief, dropping him to 9-2. Mike Tamsin went 3-5 with his second homer of the year to pace the Husky offense. NU tries to even the series tomorrow night with Jeff Thomson on the mound. First pitch at Plumeri Park is at 7 p.m.

Pesanello sets HR mark, Huskies top UMass
Frank Pesanello set a new single-season home run mark at Northeastern with his 16th home run of the season and the Huskies defeated the University of Massachusetts 6-4 at Earl Lorden Field in Amherst, Mass. on Tuesday afternoon. The homer was a three-run shot that broke a 3-3 tie in the eighth and was the eventual game-winner. Mike Tamsin stayed hot for the Huskies, going 4-5, while Josh Porter went 2-4 with a homer and two RBI to lead the Husky offense. Dan Zehr picked up the win in relief for NU.

Huskies sweep doubleheader
The Huskies swept a doubleheader against Hofstra at Friedman Diamond on Saturday afternoon. Mike Lyon cranked a career-best three home runs in game one, including a three-run, walk-off shot to end the game, leading the Huskies to an 8-5 win. Frank Pesanello tied the the NU single-season record with his 15th homer in game two, guiding the Huskies to a 6-2 win. Sheldon McDonald picked up both wins on the day, the first in relief and the second as the game two starter.
