Field hockey season in review
For the Northeastern field hockey team, the 2009 season was a step in the right direction following a 7-13 campaign the previous year. The team finished with a 9-9 mark, including a 3-4 record in the perennially-competitive CAA. An impressive young corps carried the bulk of the load offensively, including a record-breaking campaign by freshman Crystal Poland, while veterans Anne-Rieke Stuhlmann and Montana Hewlett anchored a stout defensive unit.

Poland earns additional rookie honors
Freshman Crystal Poland was selected to the WomensFieldHockey.com All-Rookie Squad, as announced by the website Monday morning. The Crofton, British Columbia native was one of only three CAA freshman selected to the team, joining VCU's Kelsey Scherrer and Drexel's Jenna Phillips. Poland led the Huskies with 12 goals and 30 points in 2009, piecing together one of the most memorable freshman campaigns in school history.

Three Huskies earn NFHCA All-Region honors
Freshman Crystal Poland and sophomores Kaela Barker and Carolyn Malloy were named to the 2009 Longstreth/NFHCA Division I All-Northeast Region teams, as announced Thursday. Poland and Barker earned spots on the All-Northeast Region first team, while Malloy was named to the second team. This is the third straight year that Northeastern has placed at least three players on the All-Northeast Region teams.

Three Huskies take home CAA postseason honors
Sophomore Kaela Barker and freshmen Crystal Poland and Nicola Graham were awarded CAA postseason honors on Friday at the conference's annual banquet. Poland took home three honors, including the CAA Rookie of the Year award and earned spots on the All-CAA first team and All-Rookie team. Graham was also selected to the CAA All-Rookie squad, while Barker received an All-CAA second team nod.

Huskies fall to James Madison in double overtime
The Northeastern Huskies (9-9, 3-4 CAA) lost a heartbreaker on Sunday at the hands of No. 11 James Madison, 3-2 in double overtime. Freshman Tori Lindsay scored the game-winner at the 93:14 mark, lifting a rebound over Husky keeper Lizzie Priest off a penalty corner. Sophomore Carolyn Malloy and freshman Allie Conti scored for the Huskies, who were eliminated from CAA postseason contention.
