Field hockey places ten on National Academic Squad

Ten members of the Northeastern field hockey team were named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Collegiate National Academic Squad, the NFHCA announced recently. Pam Aldridge, Kaela Barker, Annie Clayman, Beth Cobby, Montana Hewlett, Katrina Murray, Sam Roach, Sam Sewell, Anne-Reike Stuhlmann and Jillian Wilkes earned recognition for achieving a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher through the first semester of the 2008-09 academic year.

Aldridge, a sophomore, started every game for Northeastern in 2008, and led the team in scoring with 23 points on 10 goals and three assists. She was named to the All-CAA second team and the NFHCA All-Northeast Region First Team. She was named to the Academic Squad in 2007.

Barker, a midfielder from North Vancouver, British Columbia, played in all 20 games for Northeastern at a demanding center midfield position, and scored nine points on three goals and three assists. She was named CAA Rookie of the Year, and CAA All-Rookie. Barker, a freshman, plans to major in Physical Therapy.

Clayman, a forward from Beverly Farms, Mass., played in all 20 games for the Huskies this season, and scored three goals. She was named CAA Co-Rookie of the Week Sept. 8. A freshman, she plans to major in Biology and go Pre-Med.

Cobby, a freshman midfielder from Voorhees, N.J., played in 19 games, starting seven. She is majoring in Business.

Hewlett, a junior midfielder from North Vancouver, British Columbia, played 19 games for Northeastern, starting 18. A Health Sciences major on the Pre-Med track, she has a cumulative 3.5 GPA, and has made the Dean’s List every semester she has been at NU. She was named to the CAA Honor Roll in the Fall of 2006 and 2007, and was named to the NFHCA Division I Academic squad in 2007.

Murray, a back, saw action in two games in 2008. A redshirt freshman, she plans to major in International Business.

Roach, a freshman, redshirted the 2008 season. She is undecided regarding her major at Northeastern.

Sewell, a goalkeeper from Bethlehem, Pa., appeared in three games, starting one. She is a Music Industry major. Sewell made the Academic Squad in 2007 as well.

Stuhlmann, a sophomore back from Hamburg Germany, started all 20 games for Northeastern and led the team in assists, with nine. She plans to major in International Affairs. She also made the Academic Squad in 2007.

Wilkes, a back from Dedham, Mass., started all 20 games and served as team co-captain. She finished fourth on the team in scoring, tallying four goals and four assists for a career-high 12 points. She was named to the NFHCA All-Northeast Region First team and the All-CAA second team.

Earlier this year, Northeastern was recognized as one of the recipients of the 2008 NFHCA Division I National Academic Team Award for achieving a team-wide average GPA of 3.0 or higher during the first semester of the 2008-09 academic year.
