BROOKLINE, MA - After a scoreless first half, the Michigan Wolverines (2-0) exploded for five second half goals and defeated host Northeastern 5-2 in field hockey at Parsons Field in Brookline, MA.

Senior Courtney Reid had a goal and two assists for the Wolverines, who are ranked number two in the country, behind defending national champion Maryland.

Following a first half where the defenses dominated, Reid put Michigan on the board at 32:55 of the second half. Kelli Gannon would assist on the second Michigan goal by April Fronzoni, and Kristi Gannon scored on a penalty corner at 15:19 to give the visitors a 3-0 lead. NU's Sarah Broderick scored the first Husky goal of the season at the eight minute mark of the second half, to cut the lead to 3-1. But Molly Powers would score from Reid just 39 seconds later to push the lead back to three, and Regan Wulfberg would ice the win at the 2:53 mark. Junior Kelly Williams scored NU's second goal on a penalty corner with no time remaining on the clock.

Freshman Molly Maloney made three saves for Michigan. Emily Roy made five stops and allowed three goals for NU and Kathleen Madaus had three saves and two goals allowed.

Michigan improves to 2-0, with both wins coming against teams from the America East conference as the Wolverines knocked off Maine on Saturday Aug. 26, 2-0. Northeastern (0-1) plays next Sunday at the University of Massachusetts at 1 p.m.
