BROOKLINE, MA — Northeastern defeated Vermont 1-0 in field hockey Wednesday night at Parsons Field in Brookline, Mass.

The Huskies dominated the game, outshooting Vermont 24-7, and recording 16 penalty corners. But Vermont goalie Holly Colberg made 14 saves, and kept NU off the scoreboard until the closing moments. On Northeastern’s 16th penalty corner of the night, Fior D’Alize Arrindell’s shot hit the post and bounced out to Kelly Williams, who sent the ball into the back of the goal for the game-winning score with only 20 seconds remaining.

Vermont had five penalty corners but could not manage to score. Kathleen Madaus recorded her sixth shutout of the season, making two saves.

With the victory, Northeastern’s playoff hopes remain alive. The Huskies will now need help from the team they defeated. If Vermont can win at Drexel on Saturday, Northeastern would advance to the America East Championship. The top four teams from the conference qualify. The Huskies have reached the conference finals every season, winning six titles.

Northeastern closes its regular season Friday night at home against Holy Cross.
