DURHAM, NH - The Northeastern field hockey team defeated New Hampshire 1-0 on Friday afternoon in Durham, N.H.

Junior Maureen Connelly (Greenland, NH) scored the game's only goal at 24:44 of the second half off an assist from freshman Liane Dixon (Vineyard Haven, MA). It was Connelly's sixth goal of the season and her second game-winner.

With the win, NU improves to 4-0 in the conference and 9-1 overall. The 9-1 start is the best in Northeastern field hockey history through 10 games. The Huskies have now reeled off seven straight wins, the longest winning streak since a 10-game streak during the 1998 season. The 4-0 start in league play is best for NU since the 1997 team finished the year 8-0 in America East.

Senior Kathleen Madaus (Boylston, MA) made four saves in net for her second consecutive shutout and fourth of the season. It was her 21st shutout of her career, the fourth most in NU history. Of Madaus's 21 shutouts, seven of which have been 1-0 Husky victories. Madaus had allowed just two goals in her last seven starts.

Husky head coach Cheryl Murtagh inches closer to another milestone with each NU victory. A native of Peabody, Murtagh, who is in her 14th season at Northeastern, needs just two more wins to reach the 200 mark for her career. She has posted an impressive 198-91-10 record during her time as head coach of Northeastern for a .679 winning percentage in 299 games. Murtagh is a 1981 graduate of New Hampshire.

Christine Buckley went the entire way in net for the Wildcats, making four saves.

The win marks the third straight time that the NU-UNH regular season game ended in a 1-0 score, with the Huskies coming out victorious the previous two meetings.

NU begins a seven-game homestand on Sunday at 2 p.m. versus James Madison.
