BOSTON, MA - The Northeastern University field hockey team defeated America East opponent Drexel 3-1 on Friday afternoon at Sweeney Field in Boston, Mass.

Junior goalie Emily Roy got her third start of the season in goal for the Huskies. Roy made one save in the first frame of action before having to leave at 12:17 due to a mild injury.

Primary goalie Kathleen Madaus entered for NU and made two stops in the first period. However, Drexel's Kristina Backenstose got the Dragons on the board first with her unassisted goal at 3:34 of the first half.

With just three seconds remaining in the first frame, NU's Aleisha Bemis sent Liane Dixon's pass by Drexel goalie Margaret Barrow to even the score at 1-1 going into intermission.

Roy returned to net in the second half and made a save on the one shot on goal that she faced. Maureen Connelly scored at 29:34 of the second half off a pass from Fior Arrindell to give NU the lead for good at 2-1.

Dixon would add an insurance goal at 17:54 to clinch the win for the Huskies. NU improves to a perfect 5-0 in America East action and 10-4 on the season, while Drexel falls to 6-6 on the year and 2-3 in conference play.

NU now hosts Hofstra at 2 p.m. on Sunday at Sweeney Field.
