BOSTON, MA — The Northeastern field hockey team improved to 7-0 in conference play and 12-4 overall with a convincing 7-0 victory over Albany.

Freshmen Mari Creatini (Auburndale, MA) and Liane Dixon (Vineyard Haven, MA) each had two goals and an assist, and junior Sarah Broderick (Harwich, MA) had a pair of goals to lead the way for the Huskies. Junior Aleisha Bemis (Oakland, ME) had the Huskies’ other goal.

Broderick opened the scoring at 23:51 of the first half. She took a pass from Kelly Williams (Shoreham, NY) at the left post and listed the ball into the top of the goal for the score. It was her eighth goal of the season and first since Sept. 22 when she had the game-winner versus Boston University. Creatini added the next goal at 14:38 assisted by Maureen Connelly (Greenland, NH). It was Creatini’s second collegiate goal. She then set up the Huskies’ next score on a nifty give-and-go with Dixon, as Dixon scored NU’s third goal at 12:37 of the first half. The Huskies outshot the Great Danes 20-0 in the first half.

Bemis scored NU’s first goal of the second half when her shot from just inside the circle tricked Albany goalie Megan Akstin (Poughkeepsie, NY) for the score at 31:17. The Huskies would close out the scoring with three goals in under five minutes. The first was by Creatini at 26:28, assisted by Dixon, followed by Broderick knocking in a rebound at 22:07 and the seventh and final score was Dixon’s second of the game on an impressive individual effort at 21:45.

Akstin made 11 saves in net for the Great Danes and allowed five goals. She was replaced by Jennifer Kessler at 26:28 of the second half, who made four saves and allowed two goals. Kathleen Madaus (Boylston, MA) and Emily Roy (Winslow, ME) combined for the shutout, with neither making a save.

For the game, NU outshot Albany 34-1, and had 10 penalty corners to Albany’s two.

The Huskies next play on Sunday at home versus Maine in the final home regular season game in the NU careers of seniors Williams, Madaus and Krisanne Duchemin (Mashpee, MA). A victory by Northeastern against the Black Bears will clinch the America East regular season title for the Huskies and give NU home-field for the conference tournament, which begins Thursday Nov. 1.
