BURLINGTON, VT - Senior Kelly Williams (Shoreham, NY) converted a penalty corner from teammate Sarah Broderick (Harwich, MA) 47 seconds into the second sudden-death overtime period to lift Northeastern past Vermont, 1-0, in an America East Conference game this afternoon.

The win gives Northeastern a perfect 9-0 season in conference play. It is the third time since 1995 that the Huskies have gone undefeated during the regular season in America East, with 1995 and 1997 being the other years. NU is 14-4 overall.

It is the second straight season that a Williams goal stood as the game-winner in a 1-0 Husky win over Vermont. Last season, Williams scored with just 20 seconds left in regulation to lift the Huskies to the 1-0 win over the Catamounts.

Northeastern dominated much of the first half of regulation, taking a 9-3 advantage in shots, but the Huskies couldn't get the ball past UVM keeper Holly Colberg (Mohegan Lake, NY). Vermont was able to remain strong defensively in the second half, allowing NU just three shots. The Catamounts had a couple of scoring opportunities late in regulation, but couldn't convert.

In the first overtime, Colberg stonewalled Northeastern's Liane Dixon (Vineyard Haven, MA) in a one-on-one breakaway with 4:53 left in the extra session.

Williams was able to finally finish off the penalty corner to lift NU past UVM. The Huskies had a 19-1 advantage in penalty corners in the contest.

Colberg finished the game with nine saves in the Vermont net, while Kathleen Madaus (Boylston, MA) recorded two stops to pick up the win for Northeastern. It was the fifth shutout of the season for Madaus and the 22nd of her career.

NU is the top seed in the upcoming America East Tournament that the Huskies will host November 2nd and 4th. The winner of the conference championship receives an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.

The Huskies will finish out the regular season this weekend with games at ninth-ranked William & Mary on Saturday and second-ranked Old Dominion on Sunday.
